For serious Cadillac owners and enthusiasts the most desirable Cadillac-specific books is this three-volume series written by Roy Schneider. Long out of print, each is highly collectible, with the blue cover volume that focuses on the 1950s models being the most sought after.

The first book in this series was Cadillacs of the Forties, which was published in 1976; it had since been reprinted two more times. This was followed by Guide to 1950 Thru 1959 Motor Cars in 1978 (same content but different title type). The last volume, Cadillacs of the Sixties, was published in 1995. Each is a very high quality made hardcover book measuring 8.5 x 11.5 inches in size, with 240 pages in length. All photos are black and white, but very well reproduced.

The books break down each specific model year Cadillac with the finest of details. In the Fifties book, it opens with an exterior dead-on front, side and rear view comparison of every year’s model in chronological order. A lengthy introduction for each model explains that particular model’s place in the Cadillac hierarchy while outlining all its unique characteristics. Then each year’s Cadillac and all its different models are explained in close up detail, along with in-depth mechanical specifications, available colors, trim styles and options listings.

Best of all, the photos and illustrations that highlight each car’s individual details are accompanied with a captioned paragraph that clearly and concisely explains what those differences are. Original Cadillac photographs and drawings add much enjoyment and are backed by Cadillac-issued information, so you know that what you’re reading is precisely accurate.

To own one of these gems be prepared to pay a handsome amount. The Fifties volume is the most valuable with copies selling on Alibris.com for $268. The Forties book sells from $60 to $160, depending on condition, while the Sixties book runs between $200- $290.
